Thanks JK. Great ruler for preparing basic scale drawings in MS Word etc. for DIY projects. I especially like the calibration facility, as I prefer to draw at a size that fits the screen space rather than be constrained to a fixed ruler measurement, so this is perfect for that. (Looked at PMeter, but it didn't seem to suit my purpose at all; nor did various others that were either too limited, irritating or had time limits.) :-)

gordon451 on 2014-06-25 06:48

Hi - I've been looking for a successor to the legendary Cool Ruler from FabSoft, which won't run on W7. Really, I need something that sits horizontally and vertically, measures in pixels, mouse/touchpad grab and move, AND allows me to put as many custom marks as I need.

Is this possible?

It's the last bit which is so frustrating. I've found ONE only which allows me to put ONE custom mark. I am getting quite frustrated that so many authors think I need all kinds of fancy goodies--but if I want a protractor or set-square, I will search one out! And it better have custom marks :[

I don't need colour pickers, magnifiers, diagonal placement, skins & etc. Even the "stay on top" is not truly necessary.

Gordon.

The program supports exporting to BMP/JPEG/TIFF/PNG etc., or extracting text from a PDF page/file. Additional features include capturing the document with the snapshot tool (copies an area to clipboard), measuring tools for distance, area and perimeter, and more. Why don't I use the PDF-XChange Editor? Simple, I need a PDF viewer, not an editor.

Mixture is correct. Only need as viewer with able to add text comment (download utility bills and mark date paid, less paper stored).

Better report your problems at the forum, the developer usually responds to bug reports and other issues. Of course you are not dumb. Did you change the initial location of StackNotes folder- it remembers the location of the last used file.

Software is certified by SoftPedia as beeing "Clean of virus, spywares, adwares". The reason why it was reported as beeing "potentially malicious" at SourceForge was due to the AES encryption command line tool included with the package. This tool is no more distributed with the package and can optionnaly be downloaded from the "AES Crypt" website if needed. Latest version is 3.2.0.65. Version is outdated and the download link redirects to an uninstaller, no doubt this entry has been collection dust. A lot has changed since v1.13 for example it sports a new interface akin to Word 2010, supports CHM, HTML, PDF, and WORD output., I admit the insert-ads have become a little too obnoxious for me as it's now at the top, sometimes middle and bottom of the pages vs. V1.13 which only inserts a small text at the very bottom. But PDF export seem pretty cool. The new interface is "pretty" but daunting for those who are stuck using office 2003. I don't have enough "points" to update this entry myself nor the time fully judge if this new version is portable enough or not. But with my 5 minutes of time I ran the installer in sandboxie, copied files from a previous install of "Microsoft HTML Help Workshop" and it spit out a nice .chm and pdf file without hitch.

abc: I posted something about this in forums:
http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=42679#p42679 ... essentially I felt like the program had so many adware nags that it really doesn't belong in the freeware category anymore. For the time being, I've added a disclaimer about the version to the main entry.
