ActiveHotkeys v1.3.1 build 16

ActiveHotkeys detects what global keyboard shortcuts (hotkeys) are currently registered on the computer by various applications. This helps you determine which hotkeys are in use, and which are still available.

Note: Functional only in 32-bit. Additionally, the inability to detect which application has registered a particular shortcut is an issue with Windows and not ActiveHotKeys.

I've just tried this on a Dell PC running Windows 7 32-bit. It hung. I had to reboot.

joby_toss on 2012-11-30 18:26

That's too bad... Worked fine on my win7x64sp1.
Maybe you can find out what module is at fault here by disabling them one by one (in a VM or a Sandbox, so you don't have to reboot every time). Or try contacting the developers.

Clicky Gone Portable v1.4.4.1

webfork on 13 Jul 2013
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by donald

Clicky Gone Portable pulls windows out of view of the task bar or system tray and puts them into it's own menu. This can be an de-cluttering, organizational tool or a privacy issue (often known as a "boss key"). Available options include click-and-hide to quickly push visible windows out of the way, hide active, show/hide all, and "boss key" that both hides and mutes a window.

Optionally, the program can reduce the process priority of hidden windows, suppress pop-ups or notifications, and ignore "full screen" applications (games). Other user interface options include making windows not in focus transparrent as well as adding options to application windows for hide, priority, and pin on top. The program can even be run invisibly, entirely dependent on hot-keys alone.

webfork on 2013-10-16 02:12

Outstanding program - very lucky it's freeware. Use it daily to help keep my desk clean. The click-to-hide feature lets me push to the side everything I need moved out of view.

webfork on 2014-02-03 01:10

One odd note: the program won't hide Mozilla SeaMonkey when you hold the hot key and click the top bar: you have to click IN the window. Also, it won't hide YoutubeDownloaderHD at all. Other than those two programs, it seems uniform when hiding all other windows.

The program is especially useful for larger resolution screens by helping you efficiently manage multiple active windows. What's new? 12/04/2011 v11.04
  • Bug Fix : The settings (including the VirtualNumpad position and style) were not saved when WinSplit was closed by the end of the user's session.
  • Improvement : The installer and uninstaller language will now be set automatically, regarding the system's language. The registry keys created by the previous installers has been removed, so the "portable mode" won't touch anything in the registry.
  • Bug Fix : The update and/or uninstall process fails because of a dll file that can't be replaced. People will probably still encounter problems to update to this release. If so, there is now a "Cleanup Tool" available in the download page.
  • Bug Fix : The message "Impossible to install hooks" was often shown at WinSplit startup, and the checkbox saying "Do not display this message anymore" wasn't working as expected

03/14/2011 v 11.03

  • Bug Fix : The VirtualNumpad position was not correctly saved in some cases.
  • Bug Fix : A message was shown (Problem to enumerate all screens) and the "Send to left/right screen" action cancelled if some "invisible mirrored monitors" are installed. Now, only real monitors are taken into account.
  • Bug Fix : When launched at Windows startup, messages for communication between the hook system and the main application could not be delivered "in time", so WinSplit thought that there was a problem and was displaying an error message.
  • New translations : russian
  • Bug Fix : The screenshots folder could not be created under Windows 7 (and probably under windows Vista)
  • New : the errors messages saying that hooks were impossible to install can now be desactivated
  • Bug fix : the automatic update process could not be launched because of UAC : you'll still have to do the next update manually on some system (Windows Vista and 7)
  • Bug fix : the Drag'n'Go functionnality was started even if the corresponding option was unchecked

this tiny program rocks!
this is one of those little programs that you just 'install' them and start using them without being aware they are there,
I'm constantly moving my windows to left or right just as often as I do min and max them,
and its just ctl-alt-left, ctl-alt-right, so easy

@Scott, you are comparing apples and pencils

Kranor on 2011-04-14 08:14

Although the method of creating a predefined area is very good, I prefer the usability of Gridmove (mainly the mouse control with trigger locations) I think that either the author of winsplit needs to try adding mouse control, like gridmove, or the author of gridmove needs to make the creation of grids simpler, like winsplit.

After using the various tools in Win 7 that handle window position, I got very homesick for this great tool. Even better, it works right alongside Win 7's tool set. Awesome.

Don't like mess with programming much then use HotKeyz as it's much easier than AutoHotKey but if you want more powerful ways of handling not only shortcuts, but also the Windows themselves and a bunch of other things, use AutoHotkey.

HotKeyz: Very Easy and Simple.
AutoHotKey: Steeper curve but more powerful and flexible.

smaragdus on 2015-11-08 19:34

It is a shame that HotKeyz has been discontinued without being made open-source. I still like it very much and still use it every day- it is very easy to configure. HotKeyz still works fine on Windows 8.
