jpgQ v1.0

webfork on 25 Nov 2014
  • 640KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by Andrew Lee

jpgQ is an image analysis tool that can estimate the quality settings used to save a JPEG image. Since it's difficult to determine the compression level without access to the original, this program can help determine the value (between 1 and 100).

Useful for editors interested in seeing if a JPEG edit will drastically reduce quality, since higher numbers are more likely to survive another instance of lossy compression without serious degradation.

On-screen Keyboard Portable v2.0

webfork on 5 Sep 2016
  • 977KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by Andrew Lee

On-Screen Keyboard Portable works in the absence of a physical keyboard and makes it easy to access a built-in on-screen keyboard on any system you come across. It remembers your settings for sound, select by hover or click, always on top, layout and more. For earlier operating systems that lack a built-in on-screen keyboard (Windows 95/98/Me) it includes a simple virtual keyboard that, while lighter on accessibility features, is still useful.

How to extract: Download the self-extracting EXE and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch On-ScreenKeyboardPortable.exe.
What's new? This new release improves Windows 7 and 64-bit OS support, has an updated launcher and an improved installer.

Simon.T, not all versions of windows have Microsoft's osk.exe.
this is for them.

also, osk.exe is not portable (I think)

Simon.T on 2007-07-18 11:11

"Simon.T, not all versions of windows have Microsoft's osk.exe.
this is for them."
sounds logical!

"also, osk.exe is not portable (I think)"
I'm using it only if I need to, since most of the PCs has WinXP and most ofmy portable applications are working only on Win32 and can't be run on wine!

Anyway, Thank you *name* for your reply!

Excellent piece of software this is!
Bonus: When splitting files, you have an option to automatically create a batch file which will produce an automatic file-joiner for the split file/s, therefore, this application is not required to re-join the split files!

Really amazing number of imports and exports. Can pull from Outlook, vCard, Mozilla, Eudora, spreadsheets, Vista, and LDIF. Unfortunately I got error messages when I tried to export to excel/csv, which is a format I really needed.

Nearly Two years later... This app is currently hosted at: http://www.fonlow.com/opencontacts/ Having tried numerous contacts and address book apps including Thunderbird, I have yet to find something versatile, portable, configurable and reliable. While it sounds promising, if this doesn't work, I'm going back to Outlook express 6! I'm currently storing my database in MS Office Excel 2003 portable which I found and I love it! I just can't get Outlook .pst files to work.

This looked cool, but its not what I thought it was. the description is (partially) accurate, you can't move icons around via drag and drop, doesn't support custom background images, and only one window.

Responsive and light on resources. However, there is no one-click feature to easily remove entries from the interface.

Shadeclan on 2012-06-01 15:00

My Win XP installation has toolbar problems - the toolbars take upwards of 15 seconds to initialize and often need to reinitialize during the day; probably some strange conflict with my antivirus software. To compensate, I've been looking for a good application launcher that allows me to group / subgroup the shortcuts and I think I've found it with Tray Launcher.
It takes very little time to initialize on my system and the menus always come up instantly, unlike some other application launchers I've tried. The skin functionality is attractive - I liked the "Office" skin particularly - and creating custom skins or changing existing skins appears to be very straightforward, although the documentation is somewhat incomplete. The provided menu editor does take some getting used to and the hotkey functionality seems to have some issues (I'm using HotKeyP and there may be some sort of conflict) but otherwise, this is just what I've been looking for.
If you try this program and are also having problems with the HotKeys, set up a hotkey or shortcut that simply calls the app. This duplicates the "ShowMenuAtMouse" functionality.
As of 01 Jun 2012, the documentation needs a lot of updating but the creator of the app is very much on top of maintaining it and has told me that he will be revising it soon.
Tray Launcher is a work in progress but is already a solid and attractive app and is very much worth using, especially if you're having the same problems with toolbars as I do.

Great for small companies and intranets. If you are on a network with a lot of people sharing a lot of files without much control over that, it can be hard to track down the information you need. This lets you find what you need across multiple shares on multiple computers.
