Tested and I won't keep it, so here is my mini-review, some info for others to decide if it fits their uses.

1. "Dirty" portable installation : Install > Tools > Copy to flash drive > Uninstall, leaves many traces to hunt for and manually delete.

2. Free version much too much crippled for my use. Can't publish to eBook, can't export TOC, so can't use to publish anything outside of the program. Word and HTML export don't preserve internal links and can't be easily navigated.

Sad, because it offers by far the best text formatting I've found (images, tables, links, styles, etc.).

Not a bad product for sure, and respect to the programmer for offering a free version, but if you search for a "simple but just enough options" programs to write and publish lesson notes for your students, just know that you'll have to pay to make it usable / useful.

I'll keep searching, having abandoned EssentialPIMFree (not enough formatting options) and Precision Helper (no more developed since ages). Of course, YMMV, IMHO, etc. ;-)

Have a nice day!

EncSpot Pro v2.2 beta 2

EncSpot Pro reports useful facts about your MP3 collection. It is able to guess which encoder was used to encode each file. It will also give you a general idea of the audio quality of the file. For files encoded with Lame, EncSpot can read the 'Lame Tag' and provide detailed information on the switches used when the file was encoded.

Note: EncSpot Pro is payware turned freeware. The author has discontinued development for the program, and has graciously decided to release the full version for free.

Isn't creating an installer counter-productive to portable freeware?

SYSTEM on 2011-05-09 08:06

@SYN: Well, AntiVir isn't portable anyway. :( If you want to begin using AntiVir, you have to either use the official installer or create a customized one by using this app.

I personally am creating a customized Windows 7 install disc that will install not only Windows but also some non-portable applications such as Avira AntiVir.

That's where ASC comes into play. When I launch the customized installer with the -y command line switch, the installer just installs the program without asking any questions. That's called an unattended install.

Similarly, I've found ways to install unattendedly almost all applications I'm willing to install. As a result, I don't need to watch my computer when the programs are being installed. :)

Nice. Note that the QR quodes are 62 x 62 pixels. I don't see any way of changing that in the program, and the resulting QR codes don't seem to enlarge crisply. So if you need larger, you may want to use one of the free online sites - there are a zillion of them.
For those who do web stuff, http://phpqrcode.sourceforge.net/ has a very nifty php-based QR code generator that doesn't have any external dependencies. It's quite flexible, and the codes resize gracefully.

This doesn't seem quite ready for prime time yet. The website claims you can change font colors - a good idea, since the default color on my XP machine is dark grey on black. But there doesn't seem to be any way to do this from the menu, and no documentation to help with that.

The mind mapper comes up when I press F7 ... but there are invisilbe icons at the top of the screen (they highlight, but nothing happens.) The 6th icon on that list comes up with an error message: parse error 1,1.

Finally, there's no apparent way to turn off the TRULY annoying typewriter sound with each keypress.

Looking forward to seeing it when it's polished up.

This is the fastest PDF viewer. Awesome for high graphics magagine kind of PDFs. I have a lower mid range laptop. Universal viewer throws sumatra, pdfxcange, foxit out of water when it comes to speed of loading one after another high graphics page. And it's the lightest of all the PDF viewers I have tested, uses minimal CPU unlike others I have mentioned.

ripu on 2015-12-24 06:46

Ignore my previous comment. I am an idiot. It actually uses an old version of Sumatra, which was faster and lighter.

I've used this years before but after re-checking it I was kind of surprised there was no WPM (Words Per Minute) counter anywhere, instead only CPM (Characters Per Minute) is listed. Have read elsewhere that WPM is CPM/5 but it would be preferable to be displayed within such a program.

Just gave this a try and I'm quite impressed!

You can tell that the developer used Photoshop as an inspiration and it shows.

A shame that the developer has ceased work on it, but for a 4.79 MB app, it's way more than I initially expected.

Perhaps the best Photoshop clone you've never heard of. Recommended!

One of the best image editors. Amazing that it has layers and it loads so fast unlike paint.net.
