Shutter is a customizable program that lets you perform a variety of actions when a user-specified event occurs. Events include timer countdown, a certain time trigger, low CPU usage, user inactivity, a low battery etc. The corresponding actions include shutdown, reboot, logoff, lock workstation, sleep, hibernate etc.
The program can play a custom sound and/or run a program of your choice, in addition to displaying a user-configurable message. A web interface is also available that permits remote execution of one of a list of actions.
Note: A pro version is available without the limitation of 5 presets, events and actions.

Recently, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Update 1 and had trouble waking up the computer from sleep.
I tried various solutions, but ended up turning off automatic sleep in Windows and using Shutter to Sleep after X amount of time is inactive. Now, I'm able to wake the com up. I understand this is a workaround, but this ended up working for me.
v3.4
Shutter version 3.3 is no longer FreeWare for non-commercial use, it is now CrippleWare- Shutter Lite.
v3.3
Works great. I find this very useful for uploading videos online. It can take hours for them to complete, so I usually do it overnight. However, I want the computer to shut off after they finish uploading. This program did the trick!
v2.90
I have been using this since i got my HP Notebook, which has been a few years, right around the time Windows 7 was released.
Im very anal when it comes to keeping my Notebook clean, and im always wiping the screen with cleaner wipes. The proper way is to turn off the Monitor beforehand, but with Notebooks, there is no Monitor on/off button.
this is why i use Shutter. It's portable, light, and only activates when it's triggered either manually, or via timer setup.
I use Shutter to create a shortcut with hotkeys to temporarily turn off the Monitor on my HP Notebook, so i can clean it :) It's only triggered when i press the Hotkeys i have setup, the rest of the time, it does nothing, eats no resource.

Im not sure how Shutter stacks up against similar software, but for my purpose, it does what i need.
I def. recommend this, have been using this for years, with no problems.
V2.90
TimeComX ftw!! IMO Shutter looks really clunky, ut doesn't support network activity detection, has no locking function, and you can't create profiles...
I prefer TimeComX..
I thought this was already in database... But I actually got this long time ago from author's website while trying his ReNamer program.
I actually keep two copies of Shutter. One set to hibernate on below 1% of battery and second as portable screensaver starter (Event: "User inactive", Action: "No Action", and set screensaver as program to run on "On Action Extra" tab).
Only problem is hidding tray icon doesn't work (in my case).
Now at version 4.5
v4.4
