WizTree v4.22 Updated

Ennovy on 28 Oct 2024
  • 17MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 28 Oct 2024
  • Suggested by I am Baas

WizTree is a very fast disk space analyzer and search tool, scanning a single folder or your entire hard drive quickly and showing those files and folders using the most disk space. The program uses the NTFS Master File Table (MFT) feature in Windows to rapidly view files.

Note that this high-speed mode is limited to local, NTFS-formatted drives. The program must do a (much slower) scan of FAT-formatted or network drives for analysis.

Just downloaded the latest portable version, and it asks for admin permission. That is a no no for me.
Looking at the manifest it says: AsInvoker, so i'm not sure why it would ask.

olliebean on 2023-08-26 11:46

I don't know if this is the case in Windows 11, but in Windows 10 the new "Windows 11 style" UI seems noticeably laggier.

Special on 2023-08-26 14:44

Noticed the same thing here, I reverted back personally, and frankly this "change" is enough to keep me from updating to future versions. The dev is very good about these things though, so maybe he'll revert these changes back if he knew there were issues, he's somewhat active (I think) on these here forums.

If it ain't broke...

Google Chrome Portable v130.0.6723.70 Updated

Stephen Leibowitz on 23 Oct 2024
  • 289MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 23 Oct 2024
  • Suggested by JohnTHaller

Google Chrome is a web browser designed for simplicity and speed. Its minimalistic appearance and capabilities can be extended with themes and extensions. The program integrates with Google's tools and services, and can sync across other signed-in devices.

Cross-platform with clients available for Mac, Linux, Android and iOS.

Google Chrome Portable is the PortableApps version of the program. It includes automatic support for jPortable to enable web-based Java apps. For users interested in the cutting edge, Beta and Development are also available. For Windows versions from XP to 8, see past versions.

Note: Starting in v125, Chrome silently stopped supporting portable versions, which noticeably stopped supporting portable printing (including saving as PDF). Starting in v126, Chrome Portable bypasses it by hardcoding the command line parameter --disable-features=PrintCompositorLPAC (see the disable-features command line).

google sucks

Stephen Leibowitz on 2023-07-31 09:28

“Over the years [Chrome] has gained a reputation for being something of a resource hog, gobbling up your PC’s memory like it’s going out of style.” Starting with version 108, the Chrome desktop browser has a feature called Memory Saver that deactivates tabs that aren’t currently being used. When a user accesses a deactivated tab, it automatically reloads. A user can turn Memory Saver on or off. A user can also exclude specific sites from Memory Saver, keeping tabs for those sites active. See:
https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/12929150?hl=en#zippy=%2Cturn-memory-saver-on-or-off%2Ckeep-specific-sites-active

I've added a note (with references) that portable versions of Chrome are no longer supported. They still work, but with bypasses and an uncertain future.

Softpedia: https://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Digital-Photo-Tools/cPicture.shtml
has an entry for an application named cPicture v.3.8.6 that is Freeware and Donationware

Web Site: http://cpicture.thecloudsite.net/

VirusTotal Score:
cPicture.exe 2-70
cpp_tiff_png.dll 1-68
All the other files are clean

Assuming that cPicture is not harmful
Unzip and run cPicture.exe (It seems that it is a no install app)
This application is very fast.
It leaves a couple of keys in the registry.

The cPicture v.3.8.6 and cPicture LE v1.6.x seem to be developed by the same developer(s).

What's new?
  • Added a workaround for the new problems appeared in Windows 11 24H2 update. The workaround is applied in the following features: Set as primary monitor, Load monitors configuration, /SetMonitors command, /SetPrimary command, /LoadConfig command.
  • Notice for Windows 11 24H2: If you are in situation that every action you try in MultiMonitorTool fails completely, you should go to the monitors settings of Windows and change something, or unplug and plug one of the monitors, and then go back to MultiMonitorTool and try again.
  • When loading a monitor configuration, MultiMonitorTool now applies the monitors configuration multiple times, because on complex monitors systems it's needed to set all monitors properly. Added MonitorsConfigNumOfCalls value to MultiMonitorTool.cfg to control the number of times that the monitors configuration is set. The default is 5 times.
  • The resolution and position information of disabled monitors is now taken directly from the Registry, which is more reliable data source. This information is also used to enable back the monitor.
  • Added /EnableAtPosition command, which allows you to enable a monitor in the specified position, for example: MultiMonitorTool.exe /EnableAtPosition "\\.\DISPLAY1" 1920 0

As I use the rotate monitor multiple times a day, it would be great to control monitor rotation too.

fpelletier on 2012-07-18 15:37

Without playing with it, it seems to me that if I take the time to do the math, that the Left-Top and Right-Bottom field values will control rotation, however, it is currently a bit cumbersome. If there were a toolbar button for clockwise and another for counter-clockwise, that would be great. Oh, BTW, great tool!

Done! I was a little slow this time :D

olliebean on 2021-03-28 13:13

This doesn't seem to be truly portable. On its first run, it "installs" the portable version, meaning that although all data and settings are stored within the application directory, that location is hardcoded within the settings as an absolute, not a relative path. If that directory is moved, the program will either continue to use the original location for its settings - or, if that directory no longer exists, will "reinstall" into the new directory, and wipe the previous settings and database even though they still existed within the directory. The only way around this would be to manually edit the SMF_Files setting in the SMF.ini file any time the application directory is moved to a new location.

KaFu on 2021-10-10 11:21

@olliebean: Issue with portable install fixed with v14, please report bugs on my homepage.
