Google Hacks is a compilation of carefully crafted Google searches that expose novel functionality from Google's search and map services. For example, you can use it to view a timeline of your search results, view a map, search for music, search for books etc. These can all be done manually by pointing your web browser at Google's search engine, but the tool certainly makes it more convenient.

A great program with registry backup capability, detailed program information, and a net search tool to quickly find out even more.

Best of all, it will uninstall multiple programs simultaneously -- great with the useless software that comes pre-installed with Dell, Compaq, and other computers.

@Chris, you were probably right. I removed a couple invalid entries and the error has stopped.

PStart v2.11

webfork on 26 Dec 2022
  • 769KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 7 Jun 2007
  • Suggested by Tony Chard

PStart is an easy-to-use system tray program launcher with a hierarchical list of menus for launching applications and documents, much like the Windows "Start" menu. Includes support for drag-and-drop program management, customizable look and feel, program auto and scheduled start, search, and much more.

Unlike many other launchers, PStart automatically uses relative paths when adding applications and documents, so portability is automatically preserved when changing drive letters as long as the applications and documents are located in the same drive as PStart.

Note: 64-bit OS users may wish to use this in a compatibility mode.

Category:
Runs on:Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Vista
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: Yes
Path portability: Automatic relative path (eg. ..\..\personal\work.doc)
License: Freeware
How to extract:
  1. Download the installer and install using the "Portable setup" option to a folder of your choice
  2. Launch PStart.exe
Additional notes from the author (Jens Gruschel): "The installer has a combo box with all removable drives listed. But if you click the [Next] button, you can select any folder you want, so there is no need to copy the file afterwards (which you can do of course). I added this combo box, because I thought that most people would install it to a USB stick (in fact I wrote the program because I wanted such a tool for my USB stick). But since I also like programs located on my D: drive, I didn't want to limit it to removable drives."

@webfork: problem solved;
This is what happened, I had a version of PStart from 4 years ago running on my PC at the D-drive.
When I installed the newest version of PStart on my E-drive I replaced the old version of PStart on the D-drive at the same time, however only the menu of the E-drive was working.
After your last comment that I should work, I completely removed PStart from the D-drive and reinstalled it again.
Now everything works fine, I think that some remains of the old Pstart menu was interfering..does not matter anymore, I got what I want..!!
Great, thanks a lot Webfork...

The program does indeed have minor problems on Win7: I frequently have to restart in order to get to the "Panel" view. Based on developer activity to date, we are unlikely to see an update to fix this.

The best launcher I've never used. It works very well in Windows 10, and only in 769KB.
I've love it very much.

@Oliver

On this site "stealth" generally means that when an app is run and exited correctly it leaves nothing behind beyond the record Windows makes for every app. Since this does not save any settings at all the only changes it makes will be related to any files you recover with it. Assuming these things, yes it can be considered stealth.

spicydog on 2011-02-05 11:01

Restoration 3.2.13 is simply a great program!!! HUGE thanks (Domo Arigato Gozaimasu) to Brian Kato for having developed it and for the portablefreeware friends who suggested it.

I especially like the capacity to restore entire folders... Feature that I really miss in other recovery applications!

Pity that it is not possible to maximize the GUI...

spicydog on 2011-02-06 14:43

With Restoration v3.2.13 I have noticed the following:

a. - If I recover data from a local disk = Always excellent results

b. - If I recover data from a USB external hard disk = Sometimes the recovery of a shift-deleted folder is pretty weird (i.e. inside the recovered folder I find also other files, which were previously deleted on that HDD but had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the folder I just recovered)

c. - If I recover data from a (4GB) USB thumbdrive = I get immediately the "Do you want to scan vacant clusters?" popup and whether I click Yes or No after a split second I get the (exact same) "No files were found." response.

Anybody else experienced any of the above (a - b - c)?

Tnx

FileCommander v5.0.9

webfork on 26 Jul 2015
  • 3MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by Andrew Lee

FileCommander is a feature-rich, multi-pane file manager that supports up to 4 simultaneous browser windows (enabled with "View", "Extended view"). Includes a process list, folder comparison/synchronization tool, MD5 hash, file splitter, network monitor, virtual drives, file sharing, CD burner etc. ZIP, 7zip and RAR files are handled as folders and file preview tool (F3) allows a quick-view for a long list of file types. Additionally, the program includes an "open with" capability that supports relative pathways, allowing FileCommander to open files using other portable software.

Performance enhancements over regular Explorer include individual threads for each window so the rest of the program doesn't slow down during one window's process (e.g. CD spin-up, network delay). Internal clipboard means Windows' own clipboard will not be overwritten.

Update: after extensive use, although program had a lot of promise but its unfortunately really buggy. Drag and drop outside of the window doesn't work, wouldn't refresh a new cd that was inserted, and many, many minor glitches. Pass on this one.

I have been using ClipSecure for over a year now, and I love it. I use it for my emails with my family and to secure my confidential documents on my portable USB dive when I travel. I keep a copy on the drive and load it onto any computer I use at any net cafe. I am not a sophisticated user, and it is very convenient and user friendly for me.
